Welcome 2010!

2010-01-01

This year, I’ve experienced a one of a kind New Year’s celebration. We were under the Harbour Bridge and overlooking the Sydney Opera House in Australia!

Australia’s celebration is unique, they gather in nearby spots of the Harbour bridge to see the fireworks. Unlike in the Philippines, we all have our own display of fireworks that leads to too much pollution everywhere in the country. I think it’s a good idea to just have some key points where fireworks will be displayed so that we can help save Mother Nature.

Going back, they had this “Family Fireworks” at 21:00 (GMT +11) and the “New Year’s Fireworks” at 12 midnight. The earlier time is for the kids that can’t stay up too late to see the New Year’s fireworks. True enough, after 9pm, a lot of the families that have kids went home. If you observe the place you’ll see different kinds of people of all ages and different races too. I saw one couple who wore a kimono while waiting for the fireworks.

We also took a dip in North Sydney’s Olympic pool near the area. It was a salted water pool!!! I like to take some pictures there because of there were lots of kids with their colorful costumes together with the staff that also wore dress-up that time. However, picture taking is not allowed. We only spent an hour or so then went back to our spot. We ate the california maki that Ate Es prepared and some chips we brought while waiting. We also had some colorful glow sticks that we used after the sun came down.

It’s a whole new experience and I’m wondering when will it happen again. 🙂
