2010 Australia Day 12: Blue Mountains

2010-01-02

We’re back on track. We are off to Blue Mountains this day. Our itenerary includes riding the Steam Train in Zigzag Railway, Hassans Look out where we are to see rock formations and overlooking Australia, The Three Sisters and to the wine center of Australia, in Hunter Valley.

It took us around 3 hours going to Blue Mountains. Here are the details of our trip.

1. ZigZag Railway
Located in Lithgow, New South Wales, Australia. You will experience riding the Steam Train. I felt like being one of the cast of Harry Potter. It was my first time to ride an old school train and in a ZigZag railway.

2. Hassans Walls Lookout
The highest lookout in the Blue Mountains approximately 1100 metres above sea level. This lookout gives magnificent views over the Hartley Valley, as well as views of Lithgow. This is a nice spot for some photo op. However, people who are afraid of heights will definitely won’t enjoy the scenery.

3. Three Sisters
These are famous rock formation in the Blue Mountains. The 3 rocks close to each other are what they call the “Three Sisters”. Legend tells that the 3 sisters fell in love with three men from a neighbouring tribe, but marriage was forbidden by tribal law. And so there was war between the tribe and an elder or a witch turned the three sisters into stone so that they can be protected. However, the witch died during the war and no one else could turn them back. The legend was claimed to be an Indegenious Australian Dreamtime.
