Since it’s new year, we all do our annual resolutions to pump up the year ahead. I’ve done this so many times but I always fail. That made me think that maybe I’m doing something wrong. So this year, I’ll try something different.
The inspiration? The article by James Clear: Forget About Setting Goals. Focus on This Instead.
He said to focus on the process and not on the goal.
1. Goals reduce your current happiness.
SOLUTION: Commit to a process, not a goal.2. Goals are strangely at odds with long-term progress.
SOLUTION: Release the need for immediate results.3. Goals suggest that you can control things that you have no control over.
SOLUTION: Build feedback loops.
This guidelines might help me achieve my New Year’s resolution. As James Clear said, setting a goal can provide us direction but the commitment to do the process that entails to achieve the goal is more important.
Baby steps… we will get there. They say it takes about 21 days to form a habit and everything will be part of your system. All you need to do is focus and take that one step of becoming better.
Hope we all commit ourselves to become better this 2017, cheers!
