Last 2008, I got a Nikon D60 and joined a group of individuals who wants to learn the basics of photography. I learned about Jo Avila’s photography lesson through my friend Roan Gomez of course! 😉 We’re the technical/graphic/computer consultants when we were still in UST Campus Ministry serving as Thomasian Volunteers.
He was the first one who attended Mr. Jo Avila’s workshop and he recommended it to me. I then joined the 2-day special sessions during Sundays since I’m busy with work that time. It was October 2008 then and the location is also accessible to me since it is only located near Greenhills Shopping Center.
I’ve learned the Basics of photography, lighting, shutter speed, aperture and all those technical terms used by professional photographers. I also learned about color management in the workshop. I had fun and learned a lot during the workshop.
What are the benefits of attending Jo Avila’s photography workshop? There are many! I’ll try to enumerate as much info as I know:
1. Free Lunch, Snacks and Brewed Coffee – you’ll learn how to love drinking coffee once you attend his classes. 😉
2. Free refresher course – meaning you get to go and hear Jo Avila’s workshop again for free after you’ve enrolled in one of his photography classes.
3. Digiprint Pro card – you just have to apply or email Mr. Jo Avila after your workshop and you’ll soon be receiving the Digiprint Pro card that you may use in all digiprint stalls.
4. Free Printing Day – usually, from time to time I get invites from Mr. Jo Avila together with all his past students to bond and have fun in his studio. It will also be an opportunity for you to print an A4 sized picture for free!
5. Assistant Photographer – as far as I can remember, I know that sometimes he gets to invite his students to be his assistant during some of his shoots. You better inquire to him personally about this though.
And finally, recently he just made something that I guess will interest all his past and soon to be students. He made a One Card discount card for everyone. This will be the one you’ll present if you want to avail promos and discounts in selected stores. So instead of bringing your certificate always, this one is a real deal.
This card will now be officially our discount card when purchasing at Aperture Trading or Ynzal Marketing. This will entitle you to an additional 3% discount for cash purchases on top of the standard discount in Aperture Trading. This card also gets us discounted monthly gym fees at Summit Gym in Tektite (which is very convenient for me! :)) Also, if you buy any rice meal at the UST Tokyo Tokyo branch and flash the card. You will then be entitled to a freebie (i.e. Iced Tea, Cali Maki, etc.). The monthly freebie offer from the UST Tokyo Tokyo branch will vary with each month.
