Suicide in Shangrila Mall – Confirmed

I went to Shangrila Mall a while ago to duplicate our office keys. It was lunch time and everybody’s enjoying their lunch in the mall. Unfortunately, when I got back to the office, the duplicate key was no good, it’s not working. I have to send it back to True Value to fix it.

I went back to Shangrila around 5.30pm and to my surprise there were policemen and SOCO (i think they are like CSI..) near the carousel area on the 2nd floor. After that, I saw blood stains near the area. I asked the guy infront of me if they knew what happened. They told me that someone fell off 6th floor but they don’t know if it’s suicide or was pushed from the escalator.

My knees were trembling when I tried to go up to True Value that is located on the 6th floor. The guards won’t tell me the details so I just googled it. I found some links regarding the incident and found out that the girl was a Dentist from a Dental Store in Edsa Shang. Her name was +Dr. Mary Ann Magtoto. I googled her name to see her facebook account. I don’t know if it’s her facebook page but I think she’s pretty and talented.

That’s a bad publicity for Shangrila Mall. Even though it’s not their fault, still the incident happened there.

I hope to hear the full news about this incident in days time. May she rest in peace. God bless her family.

Update from ABS-CBN News, it was confirmed suicide. So sad. God bless her soul.

MANILA, Philippines – Police said Friday that the woman who died after falling from the Shangri-La Plaza mall’s 6th floor committed suicide.

Superintendent Roseller Sta. Maria, deputy chief of the Mandaluyong City police, said a British national saw Dr. Mary Ann Magtoto jump from the 6th floor.

Sta. Maria said the foreigner said in his sworn statement that he saw Magtoto climb the escalator’s railing before jumping off.

Magtoto landed on the 2nd floor face down at round 3:50 p.m. Thursday. She was rushed to the Medical City but was declared dead on arrival at around 4:20 p.m.. – Report from Alex Santos, ABS-CBN News

    whatduh?! Grabe naman sunod-sunod na ang mga mishaps jan sa shang. Ung sunog tapos yan? Pa-bless kaya nila ulit yan. So, sad. I love Shang Mall. 🙁 They shouldn’t close it down.

      Onga eh.. ang creepy tlga.. ang dme ngang speculations kung ano tlga nangyari. .sbe naman ng iba nalaglag daw sa escalator kse nagmamadali.. waahh.. ayos sa publicity ng shangrila ah..

    it was suicide daw. it was hard to fall at shang escalator. dapat padausdos lang sya sa stairs hinde pa-side. logic…!!

    If it’s a suicide….

    If it’s a suicide, I’m sure she has unbearable worries.
    I myself wanna take my own life.
    It has crossed my mind million times.
    It’s just that I still fear God.
    Life isn’t worth living for me.
    To all those readers out there, I do understand if you will find my message so off. But this is how I feel.

    To be honest, i kinda’ envy her.
    But i feel genuinely sorry for her
    loved ones.
    Life’s so cruel for me.
    When will I die? I hope I won’t be able to wake up in the morning.

    Many people who are ill are fighting for their lives, and will stop at nothing to extend it.
    But here I am hoping to lose it.
    Life’s so unfair.
    Again, sorry if I had offended some of you.

      Are you okay? maybe you just have to talk to someone, like a priest or a sister. If you have problems, there are many people who are willing to help you.. just pray, He will not abandon you.

    Shanri-la Mall is one of the most relaxing malls in the Philippines. If you see their railings, it’s quite impossible to fall off, unless you sit on it or go over it. It’s not crowded, so it’s almost zero possibility of someone pushing anyone.

    Anyway, if this woman did commit suicide, sorry to say , but she was very irresponsible to have done it there. She could have landed on and killed someone.

      yes, she did committed suicide.. too bad she left her loved ones at an early age..
      And yes, Shangrila Mall is one of the most relaxing malls in the Phils.. ^_^

    Your title is misleading. It makes it sound as though it’s Shangri-La’s fault that someone committed suicide. And it’s highly insensitive to focus on the mall’s publicity rather than the sheer tragedy of someone taking her own life.
