I’ve always wanted to upgrade my sim card every since BPI Mobile Banking was introduced. It is just so convenient to do electronic banking thru mobile especially if you’re in a hurry to transfer funds or pay bills and you can’t seem to find a nearest ATM or internet shop.
Recently, I also tried browsing in multiply stores since it’s cheaper and has a wide variety too. However, I found out that some online stores uses GCASH for payments. Again, my ever loyal sim card doesn’t support GCASH. Another reason to do an upgrade.
Also, I remember that I also have a problem receiving SMS when I’m out of the country. I always check their roaming services before the flight but I don’t understand why I can’t receive messages. My mom has a globe sim too but she can receive SMS. I figured that it might somehow relate to sim card malfunctioning. And yes, this reason was valid but it was not my main reason why I opt to upgrade my sim card.
I think I already tried to upgrade my sim card years ago but I think they told me that I have to look for a globe center that offers that kind of service. So not all globe centers offers sim card upgrade. It was a hassle for me so I postponed my agenda of upgrading my sim card.
This time, I think I just have to take chances if Globe centers in Megamall and Shangrila offers that kind of service.
I went to SM Megamall’s Globe center and asked if it is possible for me to upgrade my sim. The attendant told me that she will check if there is a stock for sim card upgrade. Thankfully there is. She told me that it will cost me Php50 for the sim upgrade which was cheaper than I thought. I got my queue number and waited for my turn to be called.
After waiting for about 5mins, my number was on! The guy asked me if I have problems in my old sim card. I told him about the roaming services and I wanted to add BPI mobile banking in my cellphone. He told me that I might be having issues in roaming because my sim card was already old. I surrendered my old sim card and he asked for my ID. I waited for my sim card for around 15mins. He let me sign some papers and handed me over my new sim card. I still get to have my old number! (^_^)
He asked me to wait for 30mins before using my sim card. So when I finally tried my new sim card, I checked my balance first to make sure I still have my load on it. And yes, my load is still the same. I can’t recognize any performance change but I saw BPI Mobile banking and GCASH service in “Globe Prepaid Services” menu. I will then test my roaming services the next time I’ll be out of the country.
Thanks to Globe for their after sales services!
