Since it was our last day and no scheduled tour for us. This is a day for shopping of pasalubongs and souveniers. The locals told us that we should be buying in the market instead of going to souvenir shops like those in the “Tiangee Tiangee” because it’s cheaper there. However, if you don’t like the bad smell and the crowd in the market, it’s better for you to go to the souvenir shops near the market.
First is the rainmakers. These are native bamboos made by the indegenious people of Palawan. They use this ask for rains in the island. They also use this as musical instrument or for stress reliever since it produces a soothing sound. We found 3 stores selling rainmakers but most of them has “Philippines” engraved on it. We only found 1 store that has “Palawan” on it. So we went there and bought almost a dozen for our pasalubong.
Next and the most important souvenir to be brought back in Manila is their famous “Kasuy“, Cashew nuts in english. We only found 2 stores in the whole market. We forgot to ask their names but we know their faces. They gave us a discount since we bought almost 1 box of cashew nuts! The fried cashews are cheaper than the roasted one. At first we were hesitant to order the fried cashews since we bought one in the tiangee market and it doesn’t taste good. So we asked them if we can have some taste test before buying from them. They were kind enough to let us have free taste. Their cashew is way better than those of the tiangee market.
The roasted cashew costs Php 280 and the fried cashew costs Php 260. Both of them are packed almost 1Kg. Since we’re buying one box, they gave us a discount. We paid Php 260 for the roasted cashew and Php 240 for the fried cashew. We’ll definitely be going back there if we’re in Palawan next time. They even pack and gave us the box so that we can check it in with our luggages when we fly back to Manila.
They also refered us to “Kuya Per” who is a tricycle driver to drive us back to our resort. Since it’s almost lunch time, ou reservation in KaLui restaurant is at 12:00nn, we hurriedly went back to the resort and took a bath and brought our bags in the reception area in case we can’t be back by 1:00pm for our check-out time. Thankfully “Kuya Per” volunteered to wait for us so that he can drive us to KaLui after taking a shower.
I’ll post another entry for our KaLui experience.
