The New UST

Last week, I went back to UST to get my transcript of records and transfer credential for my application for Graduate School. The University is definitely preparing for it’s 400 years in 2011 and hopefully the students are more competitive and will take pride of being a graduate of one of the oldest universities in the Philippines.

If you haven’t been to UST for the past 5 years, this are some changes you might want to look at and see it for yourself. I will just blog about the changes I’ve known since the time I left the University.

First was the Coop Canteen and the Colayco park. I remember when we were still in Main building where we usually go to eat lunch and merienda. However, you will smell food after you eat there. The Colayco park is where small events are held. There were plays, singing contest and sometimes bazaars are also located  there. Now, from Colayco and Coop Canteen is where the Quadricentennial Park in the university.

Second was the parking area. The parking area was before a plain parking lot but now if you go to UST, you’ll not have a hard time looking for some place to eat. You can see fast food chains and restaurants like McDonalds, KFC, Ice Monster and many more.

Third is the UST hospital main entrance. You’ll now see the Zen Garden inspired entrance of the UST hospital.

Fourth is the front of the Main building. It was a plain parking lot too before and now it’s Plaza Mayor. The history of that? I really don’t know. Sorry, maybe the current students of UST knows about it. The on the right side of the main building facing Espana, you can see a countdown for UST 2011 sponsored by Swatch.

Then the famous Lover’s Lane in Benavides park. We used to practice there when we have practical test in PE or even the plays we have to video for our Multimedia class. Now, you can’t find it there anymore but they made a lot of improvement in the park. I like it now than before. I don’t know the name of the park though.

And finally the name infront of the Arc of the Centuries. I ask my friend what’s the purpose of putting and he said that when people drive by UST or enters the main gate, they will identify the University at once. However, it looks like the ones you see in the cemetery. Sorry, just my opinion. Never the less, they made a lot of improvement in the University.

I wonder what will happened 10 years from now or when they celebrate their 500 years?! I would not be able to know that anymore.

(I only posted the photos that I took personally)
