2014 Sydney: Festival of the Winds

Last weekend, we went to Bondi beach to be part of the Festival of the Winds. Finally!!! Beautiful weather after months of rainy days! It was my first time to go to this event and so I was excited. I was with Andrew, Reg and Teejay and we just took the train going there. It’s not surprising that there are heaps of people in queue to catch the bus from Bondi Junction to Bondi Beach. We decided to walk from the station to the beach. It’s just a 2.5km walk so it’s similar to crossing the Harbour Bridge so that’s not too far.

We arrived in Bondi beach after half an hour and we saw colourful kites up in the air. We were like kids enjoying every shape and colour flying where the wind blows. Apparently, it’s not allowed to fly a kite wherever and whenever you like it. There’s a law from the Australian Civil Aviation about kite flying. You might want to check it out first before you go and make your own kites. If you’re in the Philippines, this event very much like the kite flying during the Hot Air Balloon festival during Valentine’s week.

The crowd was massive and I’m sure those who brought their cars had problems finding their spot, and to be honest I wouldn’t feel secure parking my car there if it didn’t have an auto trade insurance. The weather was perfect and you simply have to enjoy the moment. Too bad we didn’t bring our picnic mats and kites with us. It would’ve been better if we stayed and really be take part in the festival. Nevertheless, we had a great time despite the long queue for the bus going home.

We know what to do next year though!
