2014 May Travel: Fremantle, Western Australia

This is another city of Western Australia that I visited half day. The city of Fremantle is another good place to see if you have a limited time in Perth.

The place was recommended by my clients and so I went there via the Perth Underground. Yay! It’s a convenient ride from Perth to Fremantle. There’s a Fremantle line that will stop at Fremantle station so I have no doubts that I’ll be lost.

It’s a beautiful, small city where you can relax and enjoy your weekends. I had my walking tour and a day tour to one of their famous sites. Here’s a rundown of what I did in Fremantle.

1. Fremantle Town Hall
This is the first “old” building I saw after the station. Just follow the walk path and you’ll definitely see the town hall. I wasn’t able to go inside though.

2. Fremantle Visitor’s Information
You can get a number of maps and tips on how to maximise your day trip at Fremantle. Too bad there were lots of people in queue so I just got some booklets to help me explore the city.

3. Fremantle Prison
I was on time for the day tour. I joined a number of tourists and had a tour of the Fremantle Prison. This is very similar to Alcatraz probably but I’m really not sure. Just a thought.

It was a bit creepy being inside the prison knowing that a number of people has suffered and died in this place. I’m just there for information and “history” purposes only.

4. Fremantle Markets
Unfortunately, I only saw where there markets are located but only opens on the weekends.

5. Esplanade Youth Plaza
One of the famous hotels in Fremantle is the Esplanade Plaza. In front of the hotel is the Youth Plaza where young and young at heart can enjoy the greens and some playgrounds.

6. Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour
It is the commercial marina of Fremantle. The Fishing Boat Harbour has all the happenings at night time and weekends. It’s the place to be if you’re looking for something upbeat and fresh seafoods.

7. Round House Precinct
The Round House is the oldest public building in Western Australia. This is a small prison cell where they hold the convicts in the early times. The place also has a nice view of the beach. Again, such a beautiful place to relax.

8. Western Australia Maritime Museum
I haven’t been in any maritime museum yet in Australia and I was amazed with WA’s Maritime Museum. There are heaps of boats and ships inside the museum! Hahaha! I was all by myself literally saying “wow!”.

9. Cappuccino Strip
I had a hard time looking for this famous strip! It’s not in the map. I asked the owner of the souvenir shop where I bought some magnets to show me the way. Alas, i found it! Hahaha! They say that the DOME is one of the best restaurants there. I remembered the DOME back in the Philippines and I realised I never tried it there!

In addition, they also have a FREE buses for everyone. The Blue Cat and the Red Cat. I was able to ride the Red Cat before I left the city back to Perth. I just hop in and hop off at the station.
