I’m positive that I’ve written something about Advent Season some time in my blog. I just can’t remember when. When I searched for it, it was 2 years ago. Advent Season 2011. What was I doing last year then? Haha! I’m a bit busy with the 12 days of Christmas and work I guess that’s why I don’t have an entry for the advent season.
Well, this year’s season is a bit different for me. I’m in a new country and I’m adapting to a new community. I know that it will be different because of the country’s culture but that shouldn’t be my reasons not to practice a catholic tradition.
Today, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, we lighted the purple candle that symbolises HOPE. These days, I’ve been into a LOT of contemplating and meditation because of the Ignatian Sprituality’s First Spiritual Exercises’ retreat. This is an alternative for us Filipinos here in Aussie to reflect and prepare ourselves for the coming of Christ Jesus. We don’t have Dawn Masses or “Simbang Gabi” unless you know a Filipino priest whose willing to do that for your community. But in majority, it is not a practice in this country. As Catholics, we have different ways on how to prepare and wait for the coming of the Lord. It’s just up to you.
The priest gave a simple but nice homily during the family mass I attended this morning. He gave us the analogy of having a new born baby in the house. Being happy and excited, looking after the baby and waiting for him to wake up. Just gazing at him with wonder and awe full of hope in their hearts. This season, we are invited to be that someone who is looking after the baby Jesus. May we find in our hearts the Hope of a new day and a brighter tomorrow amidst the chaos in this world. May we all feel the spirit of love as we await for the coming of our Saviour.
Although I liked the previous video better, this also explains what Advent should be:
How are you preparing for the coming of the Lord?
