Every Christmas season, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) also starts. It runs from December 25 until the first week of January of the next year. This I think is a way for Filipinos to appreciate local movies during the holidays.
I do watch MMFF yearly but only the interesting ones. This year, we wanted to watch Sisterakas first. However, due to long queues and box office hits, we always end up waiting for the second screening from the time of purchase. Since I’m with my lola and can’t wait that long, we end up watching One More Try.
I really don’t like the idea of watching a drama during the holidays but this was the second option we all agreed to watch. Infairness, the movie was good. I think Dingdong Dantes won the Best Actor award. Although I don’t find his acting extra ordinary, he played his role well.
The story evolves with Angel Locsin wanted to save her baby who desperately needs a bone marrow transplant. Since Dingdong Dantes is the father, she seek his help to save her son. It involves a mother’s love to his son, a wife’s love to his husband, a man’s responsibility to his wife and son and a lover’s unconditional love to someone.
I find Angelica Panganiban’s role a realistic one. I agree with her most of the time but I’m really not sure if there’s a woman like her in real life. Maybe there are women like that but I don’t actually know one.
I like the role of Zanjoe Marudo! Hahaha! I know that this movie was supposed to be a dramatic one but every time the camera pans to him, the crowd giggles. Hehehe. All he does was to cry! Although I know that what he’s really hurting, he is still the macho guy who we thought doesn’t cry. Well, I must say his acting is improving.
It is also nice to see Agot Isidro and Gina Pareño as supporting actresses. I commend Gina Pareño lines as wise words were delivered by her. You can feel her inborn mother’s love for his daughter. She was the perfect mom for Angel Locsin.
Almost forgot, I love Carmina! =)) She played the role of Angel Locsin’s friend and OBGyne.
In the end, it was all happy happy. The ending was nice but made me think if it can really happen in real life. I know muslims are open to this stuff but does Catholic people really agree with that kind of setup? Well, maybe.
Have you watched the movie?
Did you cry a bucket?
