Theater 2012: UNSPEAKABLY YOURS: The Underarm Monologues

A month ago, I was invited to watch a special event by Dove Philippines and their collaboration with  Upstart Productions. Since I love theater plays and my friends do too, I said yes and invited Faith to join me that night.

We had a little briefing and light dinner at Cibo Promenade. After a while, we were asked to proceed to Teatrino, a small theater located at Greenhills Promenade. The event’s catchy question was “If your underarms could speak, what would they say?“. Hahaha! A bit awkward for some but hilarious to many.

It was hosted by Cesca Litton and the official photographer was none other than the Promil Kid Shaira Luna. Remember her? Famous for the lines.. “Our sun is the center of the Solar System, moving around them are the planets..” Hahahaha! I couldn’t help but stare at her! :p

Of course I didn’t hesitate to take a photo with her!

Initially of course, managers from Unilever had their say and introduced the brand to us. My apologies as I forgot to take note of their names. I like how they are all dressed in white! ^_^

Anyway, moving on with the show, it was hilarious! I never thought I would appreciate something like that. I’ve heard about the Vagina Monologues but never watched it. So I think it was somehow like this. Here’s a sneak peak video I saw in Dove’s Youtube page:

I admire how they delivered the monologue. It was harder than normal plays since they’re just seated and just delivering the line with conviction! Although one girl in the video was different from the actual play, still it was amazing!

It’s hard to take note of everything but obviously it’s all about underarms! I personally learned a lot from the show. It made me realize that all of us, especially women should give time and attention to take care of their underarms. Here are some of the famous lines of the show:

Underarm to Woman: “I hope that one day, you can be proud of me!”

Underarm to Woman: “Ingat lang sa pag-shave! Medyo masakit eh!”

Underarm to Woman: “Bakit ako 50 shades of Grey???”

***

Mom to Child: Guess what anak…you are now in charge…of…plucking my kili-kili!

***

Woman: Now, I wasn’t about to get a wax at twelve years old. So the only alternative was plucking. It’s not such a big deal now, but ladies, can you remember the first time you plucked your armpits???? It hurts!!!

***

Guys, you probably can’t imagine what it feels like to pluck the hair from your armpits for the first time. But if you want an approximation, grab a random bunch of nose hair really tight and just yank it right out of there. Then do it about a hundred more times.

***

Underarms are like boyfriends. They can be a pain. They’re overly sensitive, embarrassing, and frustrating as hell. They never behave the way you want them to; at the same time, they sometimes stop you from doing what you want to do.

We were all happy and quite satisfied to witness something unique that night. We also had to bring home Dove underarm goodies as we go home. I hope to experience more of these kinds of events. Cheers to Jenny Jamora, Angela Padilla & Caisa Borromeo for a good show!
