Feast Day of Mary Mackillop

“Keep up your courage – we do not live here forever” – Jan 27, 1877

Today, August 8, is the Feast Day of Saint Mary MacKillop, the first Australian saint.

December 2009, Mary Mackillop Place

I was able to visit Mary Mackillop’s place in Sydney when I went there 2009. She wasn’t a saint yet. She was only canonized last 17 October 2010. Fortunately, I was also there when she was declared Saint! It was a business trip back then and I had the chance to celebrate it with the Aussies. We visited the place again since they put up a little exhibit of her miracles but unfortunately, taking pictures were not allowed.

“Mary MacKillop embodied all that is best in your nation and in its people:
genuine openness to others, hospitality to strangers, generosity to the needy,
justice to those unfairly treated, perseverance in the face of adversity,
forgiveness to those who hurt her, kindness and support to the suffering.

Think of Mother Mary MacKillop and learn from her to be a
gift of love and compassion for
one another and for all Australians.“

— Pope John Paul 11—January 1995

Since it’s her day, maybe we can also ask for her intercession to bless all the Filipinos and give them strength to rise up again as one nation.
