Kerygma Conference 2011: Inner Healing Stream

Last November 19, 2011, I attended the Kerygma Conference 2011 and joined the Inner Healing Stream. It was held at PICC Reception Hall. The conference was divided into different streams to cater each one’s needs such as Family, Singles, Youth, Inner Healing, Faith, Solo Parents, Single Blessedness and Leadership Conference. Each stream has their own title that somehow equates to what you want to achieve by attending that particular stream. For Inner Healing Stream, it’s RENEW THE GLORY!

Inner Healing Stream: Renew the Glory
Physical healing is a manifestation of inner healing. As one goes through life experiencing painful experiences in childhood and family, one may tend to forget the beauty within. This year the Inner Healing stream focuses on journeying back to the early years and allowing God to touch the wounded areas of our lives. Through the powerful, life-changing talks lined up, God will speak to the child in you. Get ready to open yourself up to His healing hand as He renews the Glory within you.

The day started with the registration where we get our “press kits” and tickets. The kit includes a December issue of Kerygma Magazine as well as little stuffs from the sponsors.

The first talk was given by Vic and Ditas Español with the topic: Healing the Wounded Heart. Here they talked about the emotional echoes and other feelings that crash our hearts. The first thing to do is to acknowledge it and from there, you have to work hard to resolve it.

Next would be the talk about Healing the Wounded Identity by Earnest Tan. One of the quotes he said was “It is okay to make mistakes that’s why a pencil has an eraser”. He was a good speaker even if he’s a Chinese. He also had his own share of wounded identity and was able to rise up and heal those wounds. Loving and being you are ways to help heal your hurts.

In between talks were breaks and worships led by Mike Viñas. We are also encouraged to write something on the “Freedom Wall”. The goal of this activity is to release all the hurts, worries, fears, anxiety and all the negative feelings we have. By writing it on the wall means you acknowledge it and ready to take action.

After the break, a personal testimony of Mr. Alfie  De Vega was shared to us. He was once in a gay lifestyle that was addicted to all kinds of worldly pleasure but successfully turned away to that kind of lifestyle and returned to God.

His testimony was an inspiration to many of us. It makes you feel hope that you can overcome anything as long as you have faith in God and you really will it. Nothing is impossible, I guess.

To lighten the mood, the Minstrels of Hope Choir performed an acoustic version of the song Waka Waka and The Lion Sleeps Tonight. They were amazing! ^_^

After lunch, a talk by Fr. Larry Tan, SBD about Healing the Wounded Family was I think systematically scheduled so that we won’t be sleeping after eating. His introductory song was “Welcome to the Family” that made me remember my Alma Mater. I was a graduate of a Salesian School in my secondary education. His talk was exciting and humorous! Some might find it offensive but it was the truth. He said that “There is no such thing as a perfect family but at least we try to be perfect.” The Family is the most important aspect of one’s life. It all starts in the family! So if you want a good and loving child, you must also have a good and loving family.

The last talk was given by Ilsa Reyes about Forgiveness. She was able to explain how to forgive others. She said that “Forgiveness is setting someone FREE”. And yes, this is the ULTIMATE KEY to Healing. She even gave us a formula to help each one forgive others and more importantly ourselves. It’s like a mantra or something that is said 3x/day. I’m not sure if I wrote it correctly but it is something like this:

Love of the Father, In the Name of Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit, I forgive [state name] for [state reason]

The last activity was the tearing of the Freedom Wall. It was an instrumental part of the event. Since in the beginning, all the burdens were written there, by the end of the day, it was torn into pieces. There were boxes that have God’s qualities as its title like “God forgives”. It somehow frees us from the things we wrote in the wall.

It was a day of self renewal and blessing. Everyone left with a renewed heart and soul. I would definitely attend the conference again next year. Looking forward to inspirational talks and wonderful experiences.
