Product talk brought to you by Nuffnang and Frico Cheese
Who loves Cheese? Raise your hand!
I started enjoying cheese variety when I got here in Australia. The wide range of cheese sold in their supermarket triggered my curiosity on how they taste like. I particularly love Brie and Camembert. They are soft cheese that you normally eat with crackers and bread. Also, the Blue cheese AND cream is the best dip for celery sticks! (I can’t have the Blue cheese alone. The smell is too strong for me. Haha!)
In the Philippines, I only knew Cheddar cheese that we commonly know as “Queso” since it’s one of the famous brands there. Another would be Parmesan cheese that we sprinkle on top of our red pasta. And the then the Kraft cheese slices but apparently called “plastic” cheese here in Australia.
Recently, I discovered something new. Have you heard of Dutch cheese? I was fortunate to receive a package of different variety of cheese. The parcel was from a company that has a strong heritage in cheese making since 1898. The brand and company name is Frico Cheese. It is where the traditional Dutch cheese is made.
Inside the cheese box are the following:
- Cheese masterclass DVD
- Key ring
- Cheese Knife
- Information Pack
- 2 Classic Dutch Cheese: Maasdam & Gouda
- 3 Specialty Dutch Cheese: Gouda Spiced Cumin, Chevrette Mild & Smoked Processed Cheese
I was surprised on how generous Frico company to let us try these amazing cheese variety. The information booklet has the entire thing we need to know about each of the cheese they gave. In that way, we know where to use it.
Frico Cheese is based in Holland, which of course home of delicious quality cheese. You can see that the key ring is the country’s traditional wooden shoes. I’d definitely add this to my bucket list of places to go to!
It was timing that we are having a send-off dinner for our friend that night so we get to try almost all the cheese. We used the Maasdam and Gouda for our pasta since my flat mate baked two kind of pasta so we used one cheese for each. I was able to eat Maasdam for snacks.
I love their specialty cheese collection. I personally liked the Chevrette Mild and the Smoked cheese. We almost finished the Smoked cheese! Well maybe because it comes in a smaller pack than the Chevrette. I’ve been munching the goat’s cheese more than the smoked cheese and it is halfway through. I bet this is also yummy with salad and pizza. It is surely something you can use in a wide variety of dishes.
The Gouda Spiced Cumin is okay but the smell is a little bit over powering for cheese starters like me. It smells better than Blue cheese but still. Once you tasted it, it’s not too bad after all. Maybe I’m just not used to spices in cheese.
This taste experience educated my palette for Dutch cheese. One of their key ingredients is using fresh milk from Friesian cow, which results in the finest, tasty and nutritious cheese with the highest quality. Their cheeses are naturally ripped and handcrafted by experienced cheese-makers for us to enjoy each kind of cheese they create.
So try it now and go to your local supermarkets. Frico Cheese is the perfect partner for your next dish!
