Last weekend, we headed to the Capitol Theatre in Sydney CBD to watch the famous Les Miserables stage play. I’ve never read the book but I was able to see the Les Mis movie 2 years ago. The movie was great but seeing it live in theater is a different thing.
I was able to take a photo after Act 1, so the lighting is not that good. One of us bought the souvenir program where they showcase the talent’s acting/singing history. All the cast are from Australia and a lot of them (from what I saw in the program) are from Western Australia! I’m not sure if the best theater schools are located there.
Going back to the play, it was really a great show! The flow of the story was good and the orchestra was outstanding! I particularly loved the singing voice of Jean Valjean. It was really powerful! The least was Cosette’s voice. Her pitch was too high for me and I can’t understand what she’s saying. Maybe it’s just me but I really didn’t hear much of her lines. But don’t get me wrong, she really have an amazing voice!
All in all, it was a superb show! I would recommend watching it to friends.
Have you seen the theater play of Les Miserables? What can you say about it?
