2013 October Travel: NSW – Cowra’s Japanese Garden

It’s my first long weekend since I was employed. My family scheduled a trip to the Central NSW and see the famous “Dish”. You will know about it after this post. Anyway, en route to Parkes where the dish is located we decided to visit nearby spots. One of them is the beautiful Japanese Garden at the town of Cowra, Central West of NSW. It took us 3-4 hours to reach the place and more than 300km west of Sydney.

We were a week late for the culmination of the Cherry Blossom Festival held last 29th of September. Luckily, we were able to see some cherry blossoms in the garden. It was not as many as I’ve thought. I was expecting to see a variety of cherry blossoms but we only saw 2 kinds I think.

It was still a good  place to relax and see the nature. It’s a bit small but there’s a lot of plants/flowers that you can see. They are even numbered and you’ll get a list of trees they have in the garden. Also, they have bits of Japanese traditions such as calligraphy, origami, tea ceremony and others. We weren’t able to see some of the Japanese built houses in the garden since there was a gathering that time.

A different experience in Australia. My first travel out of Sydney is the The Centre of Japanese Cultural Heritage in Australia.. Not bad! (Note: I considered to migrate in Japan, it’s because of their language that I hesitate.)
