Canteen is a 30 seat self-service cafe inside Trilogy Boutique. We serve freshly made soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, rice meals, desserts & coffee.
I wanted to try this cafe when I first saw it with my friend. Luckily it was on the same street where Andrew’s office is located. One day, I need to visit Makati at lunch time to have my HPV vaccine. I told him I wanted to try the Canteen so we had lunch after I had my vaccine shot.
One thing that made me curious was the fact that Canteen is literally inside the Trilogy Boutique. I’m not really sure what to expect so I was excited the moment we step in.
Unfortunately, all the seats were taken. It was lunch time so I guess a lot of people also dine there everyday. We have no choice but to wait at the bar while waiting for our food. By the way, notice the paintings on the wall? They are also selling those! If I got the budget, I’d buy one! They are pretty nice work of art. 🙂
Their menu is written in colored chalk on a black board at the counter. They have hearty meals and desserts as well. At first I want to back off since one meal is a bit pricey but since I’m not always there, I decided to stay.
I ordered the Miso glazed mahi mahi + soy fried rice (Php 210) and Andrew got the Chicken skewers + thai marinade + rice (Php 225).
The Mahi Mahi is a kind of fish, I think. The leafy vegetable that comes with it was either bukchoy or pechay. hehe! 🙂 I liked the flavor, it’s something new to me. No strong flavors, it was cooked just right. Good choice!
I had the chance to taste Andrew’s food. The meal has 2 small rice. I’m not sure why but if you’ll look closely at the back of the skewers, you’ll see 2 triangular shaped rice. Maybe they did that because that’s the famous rice in Thai? I’m not really sure. The Thai marinade is to die for! I don’t know how they make one but it made the chicken really taste good! I even wanted to exchange meal with him but in the end let him enjoy his dish.
I bet all the other meals were as good as this. If ever I’ll get a chance to visit Rada St. again, I’d definitely go back for more. Will try other meals I saw on the other table. Looks very yummy! Their sandwich has a pretty good presentation as well. If I can just order and taste everything, I’d be grateful but I can’t. I’d be broke and bloated at the same time. I hope their desserts are good too! Argh, so much to try the next time.
Here’s a map grabbed from their website:

What did you order, can you recommend something?
UPDATE: Last April 28 2012, the store officially closed. They moved to their new home, OB Montessori. See update here.
