“Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.” -Gwyneth Paltrow
Everyone wants to be beautiful! Who doesn’t?! As the famous cliche goes, “beauty is in the eyes of the beholder“. I know being beautiful is a case to case basis but whatever it is, it just make you confident and brings out the best in you.
Well last Saturday, my friend Reg and I went to H Studio for a basic makeup session by Karen Jean Santos. Yes, I’m a confessed trying hard fashionista and putting on makeup is definitely not my forte. I do know how to put on powder, blush and lip gloss because that’s the basic makeup I do almost everyday. However, when I reached my mid 20’s, I started attending occasions such weddings and other events that requires me to put on some makeup. Then, I then tuned in on different makeup gurus in Youtube! Early on, I started using those makeups given to me by my aunt. She usually gives me her freebies or sample makeups that she gets when she buys a set of makeup or perfume in the States. However, something is just not right. I feel that I’m not doing it correctly even though I follow the steps in youtube! Hahaha!
Around 2nd quarter this year, I did have a photo shoot in one of my friend’s pad. So that requires me again a full makeup! Luckily, Elaine was there to put some Joy in my face! From then on, I get interested in makeup. Andrew even gave me a set of 21-pc makeup brushes because I always tell him that I want to learn how to put on makeup for personal achievement. Hahaha!
So the makeup session last Saturday was an avenue for us to know the basics of makeup application plus a bonus personal photo shoot by Bino Photography! (actually yun yung inaantay namin! Hahaha!)
The session started at 2:00pm with basic skin care lecture and information on basic make up kits and brushes. It was really a classroom type lecture. I’ve got a lot of points to remember especially on skin care and color combination. That day was sponsored by Mary Kay products. We didn’t get to bring home some products but we had the opportunity to try some.
After the lecture series, a demo was done for us to re-create on our hands-on activity. She created a natural look and transformed it to smokey look afterwards.
We had our own space in the studio where we can practice how to put on make up. If we have questions, Karen will simply go to us and teach us the correct way to do it. I personally had a hard time putting on eye shadows for smokey effect. It was only that day I learned that since I have a deep set eyes, I don’t need to contour my eyes that much. That will lesson my time on putting on makeup! Hahaha!
After the hands on activity, we had our solo photo shoots but as of writing, it is not yet uploaded. Only the group pictures were posted by the photographer.
Yesterday, I just ordered a couple of NYX products and still in the search of my perfect foundation! Hahaha! ^_^ We had a great time learning new tricks and tips in the world of make up. We will definitely enhance our skills by watching YouTube videos! hahaha! We’re not thinking it as a career but we never know, we might as well. Hehe.
Anyway, a cool and very practical tips from the YouTube sensation: Michelle Phan definitely gives you idea on how to play with colors. (Thanks to Karen’s sister for introducing her to us.. we love her videos!)
