Yummy Friday: Mesa Restaurant

Mesa – a spanish word for “table”. So I wonder what’s the tagalog term for “table” now? Hmmm..

The name of the restaurant is quite funny when conversing with someone in Tagalog. Here’s an example: (based from a true story)

Brother:  Asan na kayo?
Sister: Nasa Megamall kumakain.
Brother: San kayo kumakain?
Sister: Sa Mesa.
Brother: Malamang!
(sister laughs)

Mesa Filipino Moderne

Mesa is a Filipino Moderne restaurant. We were looking for a good restaurant that serves authentic Filipino foods. We end up eating at Mesa since it was a Filipino Moderne restaurant. We picked the Tomas Morato branch since it’s nearest to my friend’s place.

I was the first one to arrive so I was the one who reserved a table for us. I like the design and the interior of the place but it’s a bit cluttered. They have nice tables and chairs but it is not systematically organized in such a way that you can walk freely in the area. The center tables are close to the side tables that only one person can walk thru it. If they expand the area a bit, it would be better.

Luckily, the food that we ordered was served nicely and tastes really wonderful. To enumerate, here are our choices for the night:

Pomelo Salad with Latik (Php 250)
Fresh pomelo chunks tossed  with toasted grated coconut and house dressing

Pomelo Salad with Latik

I love pomelo that’s why I tried this salad. It was good but I don’t like their dressing. It also has a small serving, I can even eat the whole order less the dressing.

Tofu Sisig (Php 130)
Bean Curd in a sizzling plate with Onions

Tofu Sisig

A must try if you’re a tofu lover. The combination of the dressing, onions and the tofu results to a great dish! A healthy alternative!

Crispy Boneless Tilapia served with four sauces (Php 290)

Crispy Boneless Tilapia

The taste of the tilapia differ from one sauce to the other. I like it because it’s boneless!

Crispy Boneless Pata (Php 440)
Deep fried pork leg with the same great taste without the bone

Boneless Crispy Pata

Crispy Pata will always taste good to me. Haha! A favorite! Plus, you don’t have to worry about the bone! 😉

Kare Kare (Beef and Tripe) (Php 295)
Beef, tripe and fresh vegetables cooked in a rich creamy peanut sauce

Kare Kare

I didn’t tried this dish because I was already full when they ordered this.

Bagoong Rice (Php 145)
Stir fried rice tossed with shrimp paste with shredded green mango

Bagoong Rice

I like this better than the sisig rice!

Sisig Rice (Php 170)
Stir fired rice tossed with pork sisig

Sisig Rice

Nothing special but its texture is like a sticky rice.

All in all, the gastronomic experience was great! A nice alternative for Pamana that is located in the South. So if you have your balikbayans with you and can’t drive all the way to Tagaytay, you can just visit any branch of Mesa restaurant. They’ll love Filipino cuisine all over again.

P.S. After our dinner, we headed to Angel’s Kitchen for dessert.
