I’ve always wanted to buy an underwater camera that is slim and gives me good pictures even if it is not under the water. I can’t seem to find a good catch for me. Recently, I’m torn between Canon D10 and Sony Cybershot TX5 underwater cameras. But after months of checking the price and the reviews, I finally bought one. I just purchased a Red Sony Cybershot TX5 which is a bit late since it’s already the rainy season.

I’ll share to you what made me choose this camera over Canon’s D10. I am a Canon user when it comes to compact digital cameras. They never failed me ever since I bought my first digital camera which was Canon Powershot A70. This is my first time to buy a Sony compact digital camera.
The main reason why I chose Sony over Canon is the design. I liked the slim and light weight camera that doesn’t look bulky. The egg shaped design of Canon is not attractive for me. However, in some features I still choose Canon over Sony. Since it’s my first time to buy a Sony Camera, I’ll see how I can handle their difference, quality wise.
Well, since it’s an underwater camera I compared how deep Sony and Canon can go. They both can go 10 meters deep so that adds to Sony’s points. The next feature I considered was their memory cards. I know Sony is a bit selfish with their products so they use a memory card designed only by Sony. Nowadays, it’s not practical for me to buy a non-generic memory card since I have a lot of spare ones. I do prefer having a camera that uses SD cards for their memory. Luckily, by some reasons, Sony uses SD cards for this type of camera. I don’t know why but I was happy to know that. Another point for Sony.
When it comes to quality, I must say I still love Canon’s shots may it be night or day. Sony produces good photos but it’s a bit grainy for me. Maybe because of the default settings or whatever. I’m a bit disappointed with Sony’s night shots. I don’t know how to set the camera right. I guess I have to research on how to set my camera in a mode that is good for day or night. I’m still on search on tweaking this camera to make it the best I have to date. ^_^
Besides the fact that it’s competitive with Canon’s features, I also love their Panoramic View shots. I like scenic views and so this camera is very appealing to me. As of now, I’m quiet satisfied with my shots besides the night shots. I still need to improve in that area. Also, their touchscreen feature is a bit cool. I think it is the only underwater camera that uses touchscreen.
Anyway, I’ll share some shots from my camera.

Thanks to David of DBGADGETS for selling a low priced camera. I got this for only Php 13,600. This is much much cheaper than those being sold in the malls.
