Nina in Japan

I’ve known Nina around 2-3 years ago when her videos were trending in Facebook. I eventually subscribed to her videos and find her really adorable. A lot of people loved her and she literally is a star. A talented and wise American-Japanese girl was truly admired by viewers all around the globe. However, there came a point that I wasn’t able to watch her new videos and thus I was not updated anymore.

Today, I somewhat missed her cute smile and wonderful adventures so I visited her channel: Nina in Japan. There, I learned that her dad … [ Continue reading Nina in Japan ]

Travel Time: Kyoto, Japan

travel

Since I’ve been in Japan for almost 6 months, I have a handful of adventures and sight seeing done in that country. Now, I share to you my adventure in Kyoto, Japan.

Kyoto is the storehouse of Japan’s traditional culture and the stage on which much of Japanese history was played out. With 17 Unesco World Heritage sites, more than 1600 Buddhist temples and over 400 Shintō shrines, Kyoto is also one of the world’s most culturally rich cities. Indeed, it is fair to say that Kyoto ranks with Paris, London and Rome as one of those cities that … [ Continue reading Travel Time: Kyoto, Japan ]

Travel Time: Osaka, Japan

travel

After going to Kobe and Himeji, I now take you to Osaka, Japan!

Osaka is the working heart of Kansai. Famous for its down-to-earth citizens and hearty cuisine, Osaka combines a few historical and cultural attractions with all the delights of a modern Japanese city. Indeed, Osaka is surpassed only by Tokyo as a showcase of the Japanese urban phenomenon. — by The Lonely Planet

Since Osaka is just an hour train ride from where we stayed, we decided to explore the place. … [ Continue reading Travel Time: Osaka, Japan ]

Travel Time: Himeji, Japan

travel

Now I take you again in Japan. This time, it’s in Himeji. It is a city in Hyogo perfecture, near Kobe where we actually stayed for 3 months.

Himeji is the most magnificent of the handful of Japanese castles that survive in their original (nonconcrete) form. Although there have been fortifications in Himeji since 1333, this castle was built in 1580 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and enlarged some 30 years later by Ikeda Terumasa. - by the Lonely Planet

One fine Saturday, my co-workers who were also in Kobe that time together with our Japanese colleagues decided to … [ Continue reading Travel Time: Himeji, Japan ]

Travel Time: Kobe, Japan

Now, after the European travel series, I take you to the Land of the Rising Sun, Japan!

Konnichiwa! – a Japanese greeting that means “hello”.

I went to Japan in 2007 and 2008 and experienced 3 seasons: Winter, Spring and Summer. I only lack one season which is Fall/Autumn. In time, I’ll experience that too.

Anyway, I’ll take you first to Hyogo Perfecture where I stayed for three months doing my training in a Japanese company. I won’t talk about the company but the places you can see if ever you get a chance to … [ Continue reading Travel Time: Kobe, Japan ]

Graduation Celebration in Eastwood

Congratulations to Michelle Abalos for graduating Med School from Post Grad Internship!

Last Friday, Andrew’s sister graduated from being a Medicine Student of UERM. Being a loving brother, he wanted to treat his sister for her wonderful milestone. Together with all his sisters, we decided to go to Eastwood to eat dinner and play bowling.

We were in Eastwood around 7:00pm. We went to Paeng’s Bowling but unfortunately there was a tournament and will finish by 10:30pm. It was only then that I knew that the bowling area closes at 2:00am! Since it’s early, … [ Continue reading Graduation Celebration in Eastwood ]

TINIG entry for the month of April

日本の花見 (nihon no hanami)

the Cherry blossoms in JAPAN

It is cherry blossom season in Japan. The entire country explodes with these gentle flowering trees. The blue sky seems to rain down sweet cherry blossom petals. I’ve experienced snow here in Japan, but for once spring here with the cherry blossoms is gorgeous and alluring.

The word for cherry blossoms in Japanese is Sakura. The Cherry Blossoms are believed to exemplify the transient nature of our life and … [ Continue reading TINIG entry for the month of April ]

Lenten Recollection 2008

2008-03-15

Rokko Island, Japan

I never imagined having my lenten recollection here in Japan. I still want to be in the Philippines during the Holy week. However, this year seems like I can’t do my yearly Bisita Iglesia and the processions held during these days. Good thing the Filipino community here in Japan initiated a Lenten Retreat held near our place. It was very fortunate too that the retreat master was a Salesian, Fr. Armand Romualdez, SDB. I am a Bosconian and a Thomasian as well, but I spent most of my years with the Salesian family that’s why … [ Continue reading Lenten Recollection 2008 ]

Japan.. the second time around!

January 27 – April 24, 2008

Well, it’s been 2wks since I arrive in Japan together with Steph (my roommate), Raymond and Sir Kit. Tonette followed a week after we fly to Japan. We will be here again for 3 long months. We just have to do finish our project as well as start a new one I guess. Well, that’s work. Nothing else to say.

It’s winter season here. The average temperature is from 2-7 degrees. I’m wearing 3 layers of clothes: a thermal wear, regular clothes, and a thick jacket. At first it felt awkward wearing those … [ Continue reading Japan.. the second time around! ]
